About Key City Appliance Repair
We repair home appliances in Abilene and the towns around it. You get an honest diagnosis, a written price before any work and a warranty on the repair.
Who is Key City Appliance Repair?
Key City Appliance Repair is an appliance repair service built around Abilene. Abilene is often called the Key City, and we took the name because this is the community we work in and the one we want to be known in.
We fix washers, dryers, refrigerators, ovens and ranges, dishwashers and microwaves in Abilene, Tye, Merkel, Buffalo Gap and Tuscola. Most of what we see comes from the same local causes: hard water, long summers and storm surges.
We are a repair service, not a store. Nobody here earns a commission for selling you a new appliance, so when we say a repair is not worth it, that is the honest answer.

How do we handle every repair?
The same rules apply on every visit, whether it is a 6 year old washer or a 20 year old range.
Diagnose first
We test the appliance and find the actual fault before we talk about parts. We show you the failed part or the meter reading.
Price in writing
You see the full price before we start. If you say no, you pay the $79 diagnostic and nothing more.
No unnecessary part swaps
We replace what failed, not what might fail. If a cheaper fix works, we do that one.
Honest repair or replace advice
If the repair costs more than the appliance is worth, we tell you so, even if it means no job for us.
Warranty in writing
Repairs carry a 90 day warranty on parts and labor, and we check in after 7 days.
Clean finish
We run a full cycle, test the result and clean up before we leave.
Why does local knowledge matter for appliance repair?
Appliances fail differently in West Texas, and knowing why changes how we diagnose.
Hard water
Abilene water comes from Fort Phantom Hill, Hubbard Creek and O.H. Ivie and is hard, around 240 mg/L. Scale clogs ice makers, dishwasher valves and washer inlet screens, so we check those early.
Heat and dust
About 95 days a year pass 90 degrees, and fine dust blows through the Big Country. Refrigerator coils and dryer vents clog fast, which is why a warm fridge or a slow dryer often starts there.
Storms and older homes
Spring storms bring surges that damage control boards. Many homes in Elmwood and Abilene Heights date from the 1950s and 60s, with tight laundry closets and long dryer vent runs.
What do we not do?
- We do not do factory authorized warranty work. If your appliance is under a manufacturer warranty, contact the manufacturer first.
- We do not quote a firm price by phone. Prices depend on the part, so we diagnose first and then quote in writing.
- We do not push replacements. If a repair makes sense, that is what we recommend.
